My Background

I'm a Vermont certified music educator that has been playing the guitar for twenty years. I started recording original music by the time I was twelve and still do to this day. I joined a metal band in middle school and we played together in various venues around Florida until senior year of high school. At the same time, I was also in a gigging jazz combo as a keyboard player. I've been teaching music lessons since I was fifteen and continued teaching through multiple career paths before deciding to go to the University of Kentucky at the age of twenty five. There I received a bachelor's degree in music education while learning classical and jazz guitar, and while playing with the UK Bluegrass / Old Time ensemble. I have been composing musical scores since high school as well, with my most recent composition being a four-movement programatic classical guitar composition. Nowadays, you may see me performing around the Littleton / St. J area with friends. All that said, the biggest reason why I'm grateful to have learned music is that I love to express myself through free improvisation, at home, when no one but my family is near, and I believe that everyone could benefit from music in that way.

My Teaching Philosophy

An instrumentalist starts to sound musical when they learn to truly 'speak' through their instrument as easily as we use our voices. We've been practicing speaking and vocalizing by experimenting with and imitating musical pitches, timbres, articulations, and sounds from others around us since birth - learning music should be the same way. The language of music should be understood internally, as it is then expressed externally through an instrument of your choice. My goal is not just to help you learn to be a better guitarist, but to be a musician who can comfortably 'speak' through your guitar.

My Classes at The Tannery

I offer private guitar lessons at The Tannery in Littleton, NH. Lessons are $40 for 45 minutes. I teach folks of any age, even general music lessons for the little ones. Look, I'm generally flexible - just give me a call or an email and we can chat about what you're looking for in lessons and whether or not I'd be a good fit for you.
